How to choose an ICL surgeon
The two things that matter most: an experienced surgeon, and modern technology to size your lens.
Experience matters
ICL is a precise procedure, and outcomes are best in the hands of a surgeon who performs it regularly rather than occasionally. An experienced ICL surgeon is also comfortable with a wider range of eyes — including more challenging anatomy — and knows how to handle the rare case that needs an adjustment.
The technology they use to size your lens
How a surgeon sizes the lens has a real impact on your result. White-to-white is an older estimate from the front of the eye, and ultrasound (UBM) measures more directly but it requires a probe resting on the eye in a water bath — less comfortable and more operator-dependent. Newer AI sizing agents such as ICLFit.com predict the fit for your individual eye from comfortable, non-contact imaging, and are becoming the approach surgeons and patients trust. It’s fair to ask a surgeon how they size the lens — see our guide to ICL sizing.
Comfort and communication
A good consultation leaves you informed and unhurried. You should understand your options, the benefits, and the risks, and feel comfortable with the person performing your surgery.
