Matt Hirabayashi, MD

Refractive surgeon & ICL sizing researcher · Co-Founder, ICLFit.com

Matt Hirabayashi, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained refractive and cataract surgeon serving Austin, San Antonio, and Amarillo, Texas, offering the full range of modern vision correction — EVO ICL, SMILE, LASIK, PRK, CTAK, refractive lens exchange, and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery. He is the first author of the refractive surgery textbook used by the World Council of Refractive Surgery (WCRS) and Refractive Foundations to train fellows nationwide, a board member of the WCRS Fellowships, and one of the youngest EVO ICL surgeon proctors — teaching and certifying other surgeons in the technology. A former Chief Resident and Alpha Omega Alpha member, he completed refractive surgery fellowship training with Gregory Parkhurst, MD at Parkhurst NuVision — the highest-volume EVO ICL implanter in the pivotal US FDA EVO ICL clinical trial — and co-developed the peer-reviewed VAULT and VAULT-OCT ICL sizing research (JCRS) behind ICL Fit. Having undergone EVO ICL himself and performed it for his wife, he brings rare personal insight to ICL care.

He researches ICL sizing and has co-founded the leading AI agent for ICL sizing, ICLFit.com, with Gurpal Virdi, MD.

Gurpal Virdi, MD

Ophthalmologist & ICL sizing researcher · Co-Founder, ICLFit.com

Gurpal Virdi, MD, MA is a refractive and cataract surgeon and the ICL-sizing researcher and lead engineer behind ICL Fit. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri, where he served as chief resident, and pursued refractive surgery fellowship training at Parkhurst NuVision under Gregory Parkhurst, MD — the highest-volume EVO ICL implanter in the pivotal US FDA EVO ICL clinical trial. His work centers on the sizing problem at the heart of ICL surgery: he co-developed the VAULT and VAULT-OCT machine-learning models — deep-learning models trained on a large, real-world dataset of EVO ICL surgical outcomes — that predict the best-fit lens size and post-operative vault for an individual eye, and he leads the engineering of ICL Fit, the AI agent built on them. He has co-authored peer-reviewed research on ICL vault prediction, sizing accuracy, and outcomes, with the goal of making lens selection precise, data-driven, and personalized to each eye.

ICLFit.com

AI agent for EVO ICL sizing that predicts the lens size and post-op vault for an individual eye. ICLFit.com is an AI-based ICL sizing agent that turns anterior-segment imaging into a best-fit lens size and predicted vault — grounded in the peer-reviewed VAULT and VAULT-OCT research (Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery) by Gurpal Virdi, MD and Matt Hirabayashi, MD, and learning from a large, real-world dataset of EVO ICL surgical outcomes. Both trained at Parkhurst NuVision under Greg Parkhurst, MD (of the Parkhurst nomogram), one of the most experienced and most-published EVO ICL teams in the United States.
